Beckham's legacy can be greater than Pele's

"There's a very different soccer environment now in the United States. We have great players and we've qualified for the past five World Cups. It's a very different soccer culture to when Pele and Franz Beckenbauer came to the NASL.

"Having said that, first and foremost David Beckham is going to help us win soccer games but obviously he's going to help the sport and not just the Galaxy but all the teams" the ex-US soccer player told ESPN.

Beckham's legacy can be greater than Pele's for football in the United States.

That's what Alexi Lalas believes. What do you think?

Friday The 13th

The title look like scary. But, that's the day Beckham had created for US soccer history.

Yes, Friday, July the 13th, 2007, everyone is waiting for Beckham's official introduction to the L.A. Galaxy and to the Americans. It was covered by 500 media members, more than 5,000 Galaxy fans, and Major League Soccer and L.A. Galaxy officials.

There would be a different from now on. Most world football lovers will not watch MLS competitions. But with Beckham, world is watching!

Beckham says I want to elevate soccer in America to top-four status. And if I can't, then I know I will have done my bes." As a soccer ambassador, it is a challenge to him.

As mention above, World will watching. MLS may need to prepare international broadcast contract. And MLS' clubs may need to bring more soccer stars to their games. Who's next?

Pele Advises Beckham

Football superstar Pele, whose arrival into American Major League Soccer saw a surge in interest when he joined the New York Cosmos in the 1970s, believes that David Beckham can help promote the game but had better be prepared to work hard.

"Everybody knows David Beckham is a good player. He's very well known all over the world and I think he could help soccer in the United States," said Pele.

Beckham, has caused a media storm since announcing his decision to move to the USA.
The 32 year old will be officially unveiled as an LA Galaxy player on Friday.

"But I advise him ... it will be very difficult to play because the teams are very good. They mark very well. Be prepared, be in good condition because it is not easy to play in the United States. The football is now at a high level. In my time it was a little different. It was more complicated," the triple World Cup winner said.

"I came here to start (the professional game). The football here was just amateur and college. The football has grown a lot over here. "Now Beckham has to continue the work."

The Brazilian suggested Beckham just might bring the right mix of celebrity and skill to accomplish the mission in America, whose national team has reached the last five World Cups.
"He is one of the players in the last 10 years who has most promoted himself and the football," Pele said with a laugh.

"Since he left England for Real Madrid, it's always like this. His wife is an entertainer, she was a singer. This made Beckham now become a showman."

Posh and Becks' Hot Pics on W magazine

Victoria and David Beckham will be the cover story for the August issue of W magazine.

Photos show the pair in various states of undress — kissing passionately, sunning themselves atop a car and having an intimate moment in the bedroom.

"I think people are really going to see me for the first time," Victoria Beckham tells the magazine. "I think they have this impression that I'm this miserable cow who doesn't smile. But I'm actually quite the opposite."

Becks' Charm to US

AP Photo-Lefteris Pitarakis
Ask about Beckham to English people, and you'll get all good stories you want to know.

Reporters write about Becks' charisma in and out of footba......... ups!.... soccer field. Can his charming get Americans attentions to soccer?

AP writes ...."David Beckham had it in his native England. But is it transferable to America? And, if it is, does he have enough of it to outshine other mega-celebrities in L.A. and lift the fortunes of an entire sport that Americans never have embraced at the professional level?"

When Pele arrived in the United States in 1972, he led the New York Cosmos to a North American Soccer League championship, but he couldn't pull Americans from watching baseball, football and basketball.

More than 30 years later, nowaday, Beckham could do what Pele couldn't. The secret is not the soccer, he backed up by Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham and ESPN.

He is handsome, his wife is a superstar who attracts attention! ESPN has exclusive program to cover his debut with L.A. Galaxy. Motorola, a US icon, launchs special promo. So, every body know Beckham Now.

No wonder Jose Mourinho (Chelsea FC manager) could understand on Beckham decision to move to US.

Go Beckham! Viva soccer!!!

Beckham to L.A.: To Play Soccer or Movie?

I am one of million people impressed by David Beckham. Of course, we impressed by his skill to play football or soccer.

When he moved to Real Madrid, many people around the world worried if he will not survive there. Why? Real Madrid is one of the richest soccer club in Europe. It has a team-of-stars such as Zenedine Zidane, Ronaldo, Raul, Roberto Carlos, and others. Will he be the starter (first choice)?

But, yes he did. Beckham’s star is more shining in Spain.

End of last year, he made statement if he is considering to play football – I mean soccer – in United States. And beginning of this year he had confirm the rumors.

Some people were thinking: Why L.A. Galaxy? Does it because of his celebrity status? Is Hollywood more attractive rather than grass field?

People just worry if he leaves football ….uhh….soccer, and start to play movie.

Talking about movie, Beckham’s name was used for movie title: Bend It Like Beckham, released in 2003. The film's title is a reference to the David Beckham and his skill at scoring from free-kicks by "bending" the ball (making it swerve as it flies through the air in curve shape).

So, Beckham to L.A.: For Soccer or Movie?
